Help Create Stronger Communities

CAFAWA members are organisations and individuals committed to child wellbeing, early intervention, and the provision of quality out of home care services for children and families in Western Australia.

About Us

Child and Family Alliance WA (CAFAWA) was formed by the amalgamation of the Alliance for Children at Risk (Alliance) and Child Youth and Family Agencies Association (CYFAA) in July 2020.

CAFAWA believes that each child and young person has the right to security, nurture, and meaningful relationships with their family and that each family member and family unit however constituted, has the right to support and protection within our society. CAFAWA members are organisations committed to child wellbeing, early intervention, and the provision of quality out of home care services for children and families in Western Australia.

In the last few years the Alliance and CYFAA, and more recently CAFAWA, have actively been working with the Department of Communities (Child Protection and Family Support) on the Out of Home Care Reform agenda and CAFAWA continues to actively do.

'Advocating for more effective systems to strengthen families'

Eight Key Principles

To guide our work, sector providers adhere to Eight Key Principles

Belonging

Children and young people in out-of home care have the right to quality care, stability and a sense of belonging.

Our voices

The voices of children and young people must be sought and their opinions acknowledged and considered in all decisions affecting their lives.

Stronger together

The community sector is a full partner in the planning and delivery of person-centred care to children in out-of-home care.

Prevention is pre-eminent

Prevention and measures to address the antecedent factors that cause children to come into care are essential to making the out-of-home care system work effectively.

How do we know we are making a difference?

We are committed to agreed outcomes and measures.

We are all involved in service design

All stakeholders, including consumers, have the right and opportunity to contribute to defining what services and outcomes will be delivered.

Aboriginal families and organisations

Aboriginal families and organisations deliver best outcomes for Aboriginal children and young people

Leaving care

Young people have a right to continued opportunity for support and resources to embark on adult life with confidence.

CAFAWA is currently actively participating in numerous working parties and consultation forums and processes and has provided feedback on a number of consultation papers.
